Early on in my training as a Social Work Fellow at the Judge Baker Clinic, I was introduced to the idea of the "multiverse" in clinical work which basically meant to me there is no one right way. This idea, later followed by working with team members to implement Tom Andersen's Reflecting Team principles of respect for the vulnerability of clients, awareness of the effects of polarization and belief in the "both/and" concept, led me to see my work as a therapist as an empathic, compassionate collaborator in the healing process. Those were wonderful, heady days of theoretical exploration and growth. They enriched my basic Psychodynamic view of what is mental health. At present, I consider myself a solid, trauma-informed therapist. I have incorporated the non-shaming, caring Internal Family Systems model as the framework for achieving self leadership and a healthy balance in life, work and relationships.
